How does Vinted make money in 2024?

What exactly is Vinted’s business model? Many people have asked Vinted how they make money, as they encounter many different models. As a marketplace specializing in second-hand goods, Vinted doesn’t operate like eBay or Amazon: it’s not about classified ads or online shopping. So to understand how Vinted keeps its customers happy and how Vinted itself operates, I analyzed the site and discovered how Vinted makes money.

The question often arises: how does Vinted make money? It’s clear that there isn’t a straightforward answer to this question. First of all, Vinted has several different revenue sources, and secondly, not all of these revenue sources are completely transparent.

1. Commissions

5% + €0.70 per sale goes towards covering buyer protection fees, which essentially go directly into Vinted’s pockets. Since buyers can’t opt out of these fees, you might wonder why sellers still use Vinted if they have to pay a commission for every item they sell. This protection is particularly useful in case of disputes over certain transactions on Vinted. Learn more about Vinted fees.

2. Boosts

In addition to commissions, another way Vinted earns money is through “boosts.” These boosts are useful for highlighting a user’s wardrobe or item on Vinted (Vintie).

a) The “item” boost:

Vinted offers 2 pricing options to boost your items:

  • 7 consecutive calendar days for €1.95 or until the boosted item is sold.
  • 3 consecutive calendar days for €1.15 or until the boosted item is sold.

The prices mentioned for boosts in this article were updated on January 21, 2021.

b) The “wardrobe showcase” boost:

In addition to offering the “item boost” feature, Vinted allows you to boost your wardrobe for a fixed price of €6.95 for 7 days.

What does Vinted offer in exchange for boosting your wardrobe?

  • For 7 consecutive days, members will see 5 items from your wardrobe in dedicated spots, visible in search results, the news feed, and the Catalog.
  • The first 2 items will match members’ preferences based on their news feed and Catalog filters.
  • The remaining 3 items will be the most favorited items from your wardrobe (unless you have no favorited items). Additionally, members will have one-click access to your entire wardrobe to discover the rest of your items, easy!
